Leí el libro por la inercia provocada por el estreno de la película "Me estás matando Susana", y la verdad es que no me esperaba toda la alegría que me provocó cada una de sus páginas, sobre todo porque nunca había sentido mucho interés por la obra de José Agustín.
Lo que más me gusta del libro es la vivacidad que se puede encontrar en sus páginas y su atemporalidad. En este sentido, el dominio narrativo de José Agustín se deja ver en Susana y Eligio que claramente son personajes que reaccionan a su voluntad y no por indicaciones del autor. Formalmente es muy interesante puesto que casi nunca hay pausas espaciales al estar conformado por párrafos densos, pero que por la vitalidad del lenguaje se lee sumamente rápido.
Finalmente, disfruté mucho a Eligio y Susana, sobre todo porque no se limita a una visión simplista del "macho mexicano" vs "la mujer empoderada", si no a una verdadera exploración de las relaciones personales y cómo asumir nuestro lugar dentro de ellas.

Es un libro vivo, no sólo por su humor, crítica, forma literaria o congruencia, sino también por toda la emotividad genuina que se vuelca en cada una de sus páginas.

José Agustín Ramírez Gómez is a Mexican novelist.

Agustin's first novel, La Tumba (The Tomb) was the brief but provocative story of a Mexican upperclass teen, deemed indecent by the public but gathering praise from older writers. This and his most famous work, De Perfil (Profile view), a fast and detailed view of three days in the main character's life, show stylistic similarities to James Joyce's work, especially A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

He was considered a member of the so-called Onda literature, onda (wave) being slang for current and fashionable views in the eyes of young people.

A common technique in his work is mixing character's speech with narrative, without making any kind of distinction,(free indirect discourse). Thus the reader finds a long dialogue written in a single sentence,and is expected to realize which character is speaking as he reads the words. He also makes use of the stream of consciousness technique.
